Red Bike in a Grey World Sat, 23 May 2015 14:20:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Moving to America. Sat, 23 May 2015 14:20:59 +0000 Just kidding. I freaking wish!

As you all know, it was a long weekend in Canada and it was one for the books.

I went to Seattle with some of my best friends. Just a short trip but it was dreamy.

Jeremy and I stayed at the Olympic Hotel and oh swoon. It’s a beautiful hotel, quite the institution really, and our room had a view of the Space Needle. #winning

Andy, Ryan, Dave, Jer, and I hit up the Mariners/Red Sox game. Always a blast. Surprisingly the Mariners won (they never win) so that always makes things great. Not to mention that the weather over the weekend was unreal!

IMG_1421 IMG_1503 IMG_1422

Following the game, I finally got a chance to meet Brittany. We’ve been “blog friends” for almost 3 years now and I can’t believe we haven’t met before. Mostly because I had felt like we had, it really was like catching up with an old friend.

Btw, her American accent is the best and it was unexpected :) shhhh, I didn’t tell her about this. I’m sure I sounded very very Canadian to her too.

Later that night, we went out to restaurant called Purple Cafe & Wine Bar. It was actually amazing. Great wine, great food, and great company – what more could you want?!

Followed by a stroll and more drinks.

IMG_1440 IMG_1445 IMG_1446 IMG_1448 IMG_1458

Monday morning it was Jeremy’s 27th birthday. He’s getting old, I know.

He dragged me out of our king sized bed for a run (he would). He took off at lightening speed while I struggled to keep up, perfect. I’m really good at ruining someone’s perfect birthday run. Whoops.

IMG_1472 IMG_1473

Anyway, showered up and headed to Lola. One of my favourites in Seattle.

Bloody Mary’s, coffee, mini doughnuts, traditional breakfast, and all the coffee.

IMG_1542 IMG_1480

Quick pit stop at Pike’s and then it was back to Canada.

IMG_1486 IMG_1488 IMG_1492

Once we got back to Canada late that night, we stopped off at Jer’s parent’s house for a bit of cake and birthday fun.

Only to have a gorgeous sunset coming back into the city.

Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend!

….ps, sorry I’ve been MIA again. #life

Lately. Sat, 21 Mar 2015 17:06:07 +0000 Long time no blog hey?

I wanna blame life but nah, I really just haven’t felt like it. I still love reading blogs while sipping my morning coffee, so, there’s that.

I’m trying to think of all the things that I have been up to lately. Let’s start with the most fun!

I got a tattoo! EEK! And when I say a tattoo I mean 2 tattoos. Double whammy, go big or go home right?

Andy and I got them together and now I finally understand why people say they can be addicting.

First tattoo – apology for the photo. 3 Triangle glyphs. They mean Explore, Create, Transcend.

Totally hipster tattoos that I may just shake my head at a few years down the road but I love them. They are on the inside of our right arms just above our wrists.

Second tattoo: Located on the outside of the same arm.

Ikigai 1954-2014.

I lost the most important person in my life in November. Ikigai means a reason for being. This person is my reason for being. I wrote about this word, what it means to me, and how beautiful it is years ago which you can read HERE.

Aside from the usual workouts of TRX, spin, and some circuits life is pretty ordinary. Ordinary and good.

At work we’ve been making an effort to hang out with one another outside of work hours and it’s been so so nice. Look at this crew!

…and this girl.

IMG_0625 IMG_0626 IMG_0627 IMG_0629 IMG_0630 IMG_0631 IMG_0632 IMG_0634

Corinna, Andy, and I have been having Friday Morning Brunches lately and they are just wonderful.

IMG_0580 IMG_0663

Generally we will go for an early morning workout and then scoot on over to North Vancouver to Corinna’s humble abode from some Bailey’s + Coffee, Bubbly + Orange Juice and all the food.

Clearly we just like being drunk by noon on Fridays ;)

How do you feel about a boozy brunch?

All The Things. Mon, 16 Feb 2015 16:52:44 +0000 Phew, it’s been a busy week here in Vancouver.

First and foremost: I have an apartment again! Finally.

It’s been a long time coming and I couldn’t be happier. It’s in the perfect location, it’s a 2 bedroom with a balcony, and my homegirl Christy is my roomie.

Love her face.

Her dad came strolling through the door with flowers on our move-in day and it was just magical.

Now because I’ve been working so much I haven’t gotten a chance to move anything in except for my bed. I need to go to my storage space and move that as well as all my things at my brothers.

This week is the week and I can’t wait.

Secondly, I have a new job! Still at lululemon of course but now I am also working at Cadence Cycling. Yup, you guessed it – a spin studio!

Couldn’t be happier. Right now I am working the front desk signing people in and also making yummy smoothies in the lounge. But… (drumroll please) I will also be training to be a spin instructor!

In the meantime I whip up yummy smoothies in the Vitamix. Now that I have used it and know just how glorious they are, I absolutely must save and buy one in the near future.

IMG_0510 IMG_0512

I’ve been pretty tired though. I’m done training now but I was working a lot these last two weeks. Twice a week my day would be 6am-2pm at Cadence and then 4-9pm at lulu.. so I was a sleepy cat. Happy to report that won’t be happening anymore and I will have normal sleep patterns again.

This would be me at 4am waking up for my 6am shift.

Coffee, news, blog, blanket.

I worked on Valentines day and it was actually really fun. My job that day included taking polaroid photos of people coming in. Neat right? People loved it and while I can’t share their photos, some of my friends came in and I will share those.

IMG_0533 IMG_0553

I will be the first to say that I love love and I was stoked on V-Day in the morning but by about 3pm I was over it. So many rose bouquets that I was ready to take one and throw it out the window :D oops.

Then I came home to my brother’s house and found this in the fridge.

So I’m not sure what him and Lyndall (gf) are proud of or what exactly I’m supposed to “kill” but I will take it! Delicious tiramisu for me :) Yum. And there I was back to loving Valentines Day again.

Aside from that I have been working out as per usual. Spin, circuit workouts, and I went for my first 10km in about a decade yesterday.

Studeo55 – no that is not me, come on now I’m not that talented or strong.

It was absolutely beautiful out for my run yesterday! 10 degrees, sunny, and just plain amazing.

So happy I’m not living in -40 Toronto right now :)

Anyway, happy to report that 2015 is already looking like it’s going to be a darn good year.

What A Night. Mon, 02 Feb 2015 15:50:31 +0000 This weekend was absolutely lovely.

I attended Farmacie 4.0 on Saturday evening and these dinners are always just so amazing.

Basically, Farmacie is about connecting food and people. At each long table dinner, which are held in Vancouver, 100% of the proceeds go to local organizations and start ups.

You can read all about Farmacie HERE.

This time around, it was all about the SEA aka FARM-A-SEA.

All proceeds went to Living Oceans Society, which is Canada’s largest non-profit that focuses on marine conservation.

Anywho, onto the good stuff.

I’ve helped out with set-up twice now and its always the best time. We hang twinkle lights and turn schools, gardens, and woodworking spaces into cozy, magical meccas of happiness.

Check it out.

IMG_0406 IMG_0409IMG_0411 IMG_0412

And After

IMG_0418 IMG_0419 IMG_0421

First we dine and drink all the wine.

IMG_0424 IMG_0426

One of my favourite things about Farmacie is that I get to meet people that I would otherwise not. Of course you arrive with your friends or dates but then you sit across or beside someone you don’t know and make that connection.

Food is served family style so it’s all about sharing and just enjoying the evening together. It’s really beautiful, humbling, and you always leave feeling so full of love and happiness. There’s something about shared meals with strangers and loved ones that will get ya every time.

I didn’t take many photos of the food but dine we did. We had a lovely array of fresh bread and butter, soup, salads, fish and potatoes, and the most unreal dessert. Lavender and honey pie and beet and carrot cake – of course I fully remember the dessert..the best part!

IMG_0452 IMG_0436

Of course we get a little carried away with dancing and wine but that’s just the way I like it!

Image 1

IMG_0454 IMG_0451

Just the loveliest people in the whole wide world.

IMG_0448 IMG_0455

Believe it or not, I made it to spin Sunday morning at 945. I have no idea how but I was definitely one sleepy cat. Oy Vey.

What did you get up to this weekend?

This City. Sun, 25 Jan 2015 02:15:20 +0000 I may or may not have been a little MIA.

Anyway, I am finally back at work and it’s such a wonderful thing. There really is a reason why lululemon employees use the has tag #joblove.

So this week I have been staying with my best friend Andy. We had a girls night on Tuesday and it was magical. A night of appies and wine soon turned into us hitting the town.

I can’t say I’ve ever gone to a club on a Tuesday, but hey.. ya only live once!

Basically, everything I’ve been doing lately you can count on Andy being next to me.

I was also surprised by some of the girls to a Farmacie Dinner ticket. Gahhh the best. I attended Farmacie and helped set up this summer and it was amazing. The event is next Saturday and I cannot wait!

You can check out the video: Look for a few familiar faces!

You all know I love spin, but this week I had my first class at RIDE Cycle in Yaletown.

Holy Crap.

It’s actually like a party on a bike. Wait, more like you’re at a club on a bike. It’s dark, its SO sweaty, and the music is awesome. I honestly feel like a badass. A panting, almost throwing up badass but nevertheless!

3 songs that I am obsessed with.

Think about spinning to these songs. You will feel like a badass. At least with the Kanye song.

And well, Hozier is just a dream. Nuff said.

Lyndall, Kendyl, and I also took Max to his first spin class at Eastwood.

He almost passed out. He was pretty much done after the first 10 minutes. Poor guy, but hey, at least he did it! Trooper for coming out.

Hope you guys have a great weekend! I’m off to Victoria tomorrow (the best!).

Forward. Wed, 14 Jan 2015 14:00:55 +0000 I’m Home!

And when I say home, because I understand it’s a little confusing these days, I mean Vancouver!

I arrived on Saturday morning and it feels so nice to be back.

After my 3 months hiatus, it’s nice to not move on, but move forward.

My first night back, I met up with my best friend Andy! Oh gosh how I missed that face.

We went for sushi which I didn’t take a picture of, but it was lovely.

Sunday, I got right back into my usual routine and headed to spin with Corinna. A 1 hour weekender class at Eastwood and oh lawd… a doozy after eating nothing but Christmas cookies for the last 2 months.

Anyway, after that, we headed across to street to Pure Bread bakery.

IMG_0301 IMG_0297 IMG_0298

Swoon. And not a good idea for my waste line. However, they serve Stumptown Coffee and that’s always good in my books.

Sunday evening, I headed to Yoga on Ice at Rogers Arena.

What’s that you ask? Yoga with Alex Burrows, Shawn Matthias, and a few other Canucks. I don’t actually watch hockey, so I couldn’t recognize these guys walking down the street, but it was really fun to do yoga with them!

Stole this photo from the Canucks Twitter feed. #sorrynotsorry

Also: Hockey Butts are SO real. Realler than real. Holy, ghetto booty.

Fast forward a few days and we’re onto Tuesday. I’ve been making coffee in this contraption:

I make it wrong every single day. WAY too strong. I always have to add water. One day, I’ll get it right ;)

Tuesday night I went to Distrikt with Andy for a Crush Hush class.

Oh hot damn, this class. First portion is a solid workout where you feel absolutely gassed. Second portion is yoga – thank the lawd.

I am unbelievably sore today. But that’s what we want right?

What classes or workouts have you been doing lately!?

Happy Wednesday!

Spiced Red Wine Poached Pears. Mon, 12 Jan 2015 16:08:10 +0000 You Guys.

I can’t even begin to explain how wonderfully rich and decadent these babies are.

I am typically a chocolate kind of girl when it comes to dessert but these pears are something else.

Poached pears sound super complicated but I think it’s actually the easiest dessert on the planet.

We used THIS recipe.

Basically, you put 500ml of red wine into a pot with 1 cinnamon stick, 2 cloves, juice of 1 orange, slice of the orange rind, and 1/2 cup of sugar.

Image 4

Bring that to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

Image 2

While you are waiting for that. Peal you pears and cut off the bottom so that the pears have a flat surface – keep the stem on (for presentation purposes of course!).

Image 3

Once your home smells like mulled wine is on the stove, place the pears in the pot. Simmer for a total of 30 minutes, turning the pears every 5 minutes or so for even colour.

Image 6

Take the pears out, let them cool, and reduce the wine mixture to a wonderful syrup.

When you’re ready for eating, place the pears upright on a plate, spoon some of the syrup over top, add some whipped cream, and you have yourself the most elegant and ballin’ dessert..ever.

You’re welcome :)

2015. Wed, 07 Jan 2015 13:26:07 +0000 I feel like it’s going to be a good year.

Partly because it has to be.

There were many good moments in 2014, but overall, 2014 was hard.

I learned a lot in 2014. How to break hearts (and really well, too), how to be more gentle and kind, and I’ve never placed more value on family and friends. I learned that sometimes you have to listen a bit more and stop talking all. the. time. I’m most proud of learning how to forgive. My mother taught me that it takes a very strong person to find enough compassion in them to forgive and that’s the one thing, at least in the latter half of 2014, I’ve tried to practice.

Like I said in my previous post, I don’t have resolutions but I am looking forward to things in 2015. So here’s to goals of 2015.

1. I am financially stable.

2. I run 2 half marathons, SeaWheeze in August and the other is TBD. Along with a few other 10k runs, just for fun with friends.

3. I go to Edmonton to visit Caleigh and Kamloops to see Sandy & Kim.

4. I travel to one hot place. Bahamas, California, Hawaii, Mexico. Don’t care, it just needs to be hot.

5. I am on track to be a Store Manager.

6. I live by myself in an apartment that I love.

7. I let go of where I “should be” in life.

8. I complete my spin certification and teach on a casual basis.

9. Two of my friends and I have a clear vision and financial plan to open our business.

10. I spend less time on social media: specifically twitter and instagram – and more time present in conversations with people.

11. Get a tattoo. Oh buddy, who would have thought?

So tell me, what are you excited for in 2015?

This Will Make You Think. Mon, 05 Jan 2015 10:00:31 +0000 Our society is addicted to our phones, social media, and email – according to everyone.

I’ll be the first admit it. I AM.

I crave that connection, I occasionally get nervous when I am waiting for a text or forgot my phone, and god forbid I don’t HOLD my phone walking down the street or have it in the nearest pocket so it’s easily accessible to check every 30 seconds.

What do I think is going to happen in the 2 minutes I walk from the car to the coffee shop? Seriously.

That’s pathetic. And yet, I do it. I DO IT.

Crazy right?

So, I watched this TED Talk last night and it just blew my mind. This woman rocked my world because everything she said is so true.

“I share therefore I am” – I’m sorry, WHAT?

“We expect more from technology and less from each other” - That’s freaking terrible and true.

“Being alone feels like a problem that needs to be solved” – Oh man, stop it. Stop it because its again, true.

“Before it was, I have a feeling I want to make a call. Now it’s I want to have a feeling, I need to send a text” – Ughhh, and now you have deciphered what’s actually wrong with me and looked into my soul, Thank You.

So watch it for yourself and prepare to have your mind blown.

ps, don’t look at your phone while doing this.

Holidays. Fri, 02 Jan 2015 14:20:54 +0000 fat-cat-meme-generator-you-know-what-i-got-for-christmas-fat-i-got-fat-b395fd

Only half kidding. But seriously, can anyone get away without it? NO. And if you tell me otherwise I might just have to shank you. (kidding, sorta).

The theme of our holidays, aside from eating, was definitely low-key. My brother flew in from Vancouver on the 24th and we kept things pretty casual. This year just didn’t feel like Christmas to us and that’s okay.

IMG_0057 IMG_0064

We did make the most incredible wine-poached pears for dessert on the 24th. I’ll have to share a recipe and dedicate an entire post, but swoooooooon.

Normally at this time of year we ski on the 25th and 26th to keep us entertained because everything is closed so let me just say, I really DONT know a more boring day than December 25th and January 1st in the city. What do people do!? Our family celebrates Christmas on the eve of the 24th so I can honestly say I have never been more bored, and grateful that Starbucks was open.

I turned 25 on the 26th. I have to say that without cringing.. You know when people ask you, “So, how does it feel to be another year older?” Normally I respond with, “The same.” But let me tell you, 25 is different. You feel it. Why? Because you’re closer to 30 than 20 and realize that you really don’t have your shit together like you thought you would when you were 18 thinking about what life would be like at 25. Am I right all you 25+ out there? (Please tell me I’m right).

Nevertheless, I did have a really beautiful birthday. I’ve never been one for big celebrations, mainly because I get awkward with all the attention.

I spent the day with my family. Cruised around Toronto, got flowers, and an Icebreaker sweater. I’m obsessed with Icebreaker – I love the idea of wearing natural clothing because synthetics sometimes make my skin so itchy and irritated.

IMG_0101 IMG_0107 IMG_0108

We also had birthday pie at Wanda’s Pie in the Sky in Kensington Market – best pie. Wild blueberry, of course, because it’s my favourite.

And finally, we went to Local Kitchen for the most incredible dinner. Jess and Fabe came along as well and I loved every minute.

IMG_0112 IMG_0126

It was perfect.

I’ll spare you the details of a night shortly after where Fabe, Jess, and I pretended we were 19,

drank all the wine,

Sang with Tim,

this song to be exact…

Laughed in each other’s faces,

IMG_0150 IMG_0148

And thought we were rockstars at the Dakota.

Onto NYE!

I was supposed to spend it with Fabe and Jess, then I ended up spending it with the family instead.

There was a point between 9-1030 when I was still in my pj’s and didn’t feel like doing anything whatsoever. I was tired and so content just being at home. I was even content to be alone that night and the fam could have gone on their own.

However, you all know how peer pressure and alcohol work. Very well.

I put on my big girl pants, a bit of jewelry (cause that always makes you feel better), and got ready for the night.

We went to the party and when the clock struck 12am, we jumped into the New Year.

Our mother taught us this years ago and it wouldn’t be New Years without it.

I don’t have or really believe in New Year Resolutions, but I will share my goals with you another day.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Happy New Year!
